Marulan and District Youth Connect: Get Involved!

A group of local leaders, school and community members met with Luke Wallace, the Youth Services Co-ordinator from Goulburn Council on the 12th February as part of a MADPA (Marulan and District Progress Association) initiative, to address the needs and opportunities for young people in our community.

With a shared commitment to supporting our next generation, the group discussed key issues affecting local young people and developed a tentative plan of action.

Key topics included:

  • Improving transport options to Goulburn for young people to access various youth oriented programs, opportunities and entertainment.
  • Addressing the various challenges our younger community face.
  • The possibility of offering a ‘Youth Hub’ with access to technology for various workshops, career opportunities/help with writing resumes and a general space to hang out.
  • Running outreach programs through Goulburn Youth Services for both school holiday and general activities, at Marulan Memorial Hall.
  • Sporting upgrades such as bike tracks, a re-vamped basketball court and options of repurposing of the current skate park.

The group also discussed exploring grant opportunities to fund initiatives, a meeting with the Mayor and CEO of Council to gain support for our expanding population and forming a Marulan Youth Council to give young people a voice in shaping their future.

With National Youth Week (9–17 April) approaching, now is the perfect time to get involved! The group goes under the temporary title – Marulan and District Youth Connect, until they next meet on March 4th.

If you are a local young person, parent or community member who would like to get involved in this initiative or to attend the meeting, please contact Susanne Mansell on 0403 395 300 or via email at
