Mulwaree Arts Shop, Marulan NSW 2579

Mulwaree Arts Looking for Contributors

Open Saturdays and Sundays 10am to 4pm or by appointment, Mulwaree Arts is based in the Marulan Memorial Hall at 70 George Street. They are always looking for more volunteers and contributors, so if you have something handcrafted that you’d like them to stock or have time to help out, visit any weekend or contact Bea on 0488 378 884. History of Mulwaree Arts In 1982 the first Community Arts and Crafts shop was opened on the corner of Goulburn and George Street Marulan, as an outlet for local talented people to display and sell their arts and crafts, manned by volunteers. It operated for a long time, but the shop eventually closed. It reopened in January 2000, at the front of the Marulan Memorial Hall with the help of Jenny Cee, Inda Evans,Karen Bolen and other volunteers. It’s a place for locals to sell their hand crafted knitted and crocheted items, paintings, handcrafted cards for every occasion, jewellery, jams, alpaca products, baby items, woodwork items, local history books and lots more. The Marulan Kite Festival was started by Mulwaree Arts back in 2006, the first night was Friday 22nd September with an Art exhibition and official opening and then the weekend of Saturday 23 rd and Sunday 24th there were markets, food, music, kite flying etc. The spring equinox was chosen as the date for the festival as Marulan is the only town in Australia that sits exactly on the 150th meridian and ‘Kites’ were to note the spring winds the area of Marulan and surrounds is known for. Prior to COVID-19 Mulwaree Arts held Play nights, Art Exhibitions and art workshops and any profits went back into community local projects, the hall has benefited with new curtains, lights, and tracking. If you want to get involved in a local community enterprise, give Bea a call on 0488 378 884, or follow their Facebook page to stay up-to-date.
